it's just oatmeal...right?

This mornings breakfast was the worst ever! We were out of milk and so I made a bowl of instant oatmeal for each of the kids. Bailey has oatmeal every morning anyway, so she just gobbled it up. Zach likes oatmeal and he ate his quickly too. Then there was Noah! He hates oatmeal! We had an episode once before where he gaged, and cried, and threw a tantrum. But this was about a year ago, so I figured he might handle it a little better and just get it down. Boy was I wrong! What a disaster! Along with the gagging, crying, and tantrum we also had the pressure of getting him done and out the door to catch the bus to school. I was not very patient! He was being so dramatic that I insisted he finish every last bite! Mean mom right? The poor kid! When I dropped him off at school and watched him walk away I was almost in tears. Oatmeal was not worth what we both just went through. I am considering it a lesson learned!! Next time I'm making toast!

I was at the last oatmeal disaster, and can testify that it was not a fun experience. I have had the exact same result from my kids. Maybe there is an oatmeal gene in our family that makes it so that just the sight of it causes gagging and crying.

I think that the parents are right when it comes to food eating. A child may fight it, but they eat what is given them or they don't eat at all. I head a quote once that said that unless the child is paying for the meal, he shouldn't be able choose it.
A few mornings of not eating the oatmeal for breakfast and he will probably get tired of being hungry. Of course, this is coming from a man.

Same thing happened to me today with a glass of water. Sage refused to drink it so no breakfast, and she almost didn't get lunch either. I am trying to break her of the juice habit, and she is sooooo stubborn. It is rough being a mom sometimes.
