food storage...

So my next baking basics food storage focus is: chocolate chips, cocoa, and yeast.

Yeast: 2 jars, or a 1 lb package per family

(I might pick up a little more yeast than this...we go through it pretty fast)
Cocoa: 2 containers per family
Chocolate Chips: 6 bags per family

I can't wait to pick up these items at our new Wal-Mart!! It opens on Wednesday and I am so excited!

when you love it...

There is a story behind these adorable, delicious cards...I was designing a shop banner for my sister-in-law's etsy shop and I asked her to send me ideas of styles that she likes. She sent me several sites. One of them had a post about these ABC cards. The moment I saw them I fell in love! Oh yes... love! Now lets be clear that this doesn't happen very often with me. I am usually a purposeful cautious buyer, but I knew instantly that I HAD to have these cards. The blog said that they were only sold at Michaels craft store. So I googled the phone number of my local Michaels and asked them to look and see if they had any so that I didn't make the 20 minute trip only to find out that they didn't have it! Well, this cranky man answers the phone and takes a look for me. "We don't have it." he says! I politely give him a possible sku number and ask him if he wouldn't mind looking again. (Seriously...what does a man know about scrapbook ABC cards...would he even know what to look for?) He comes back on the phone and says that they must not carry them. Not really believing him, but not wanting to make the drive I try to put the cards out of my mind. Well...a few days later I still HAD to have those cards. So yesterday I decided to make the drive just to see....well....they had them!!! Wahooo....I felt so victorious! Silly man....silly silly man....not only do you carry them, but you had 7! Bonus...they were only $6!! I LOVE these cards! They are even cuter than the pictures. They are 5x7 cards with the most adorable pictures of animals for each letter. On the back is some really neat facts for each animal! I plan on either finding a cute 5x7 photo album to put them in to turn it into a book, or laminating them and connecting them with a metal ring! The blog that I found them on said that she used them to make a border in her sons nursery! Too cute! Oh boy have I got joy!!

Another new love is this too cute fabric. I was shopping last week with my mother-in-law at Broadbents and saw this fun fabric... I immediately knew that I needed to make something out of it! I thought of a quilt that a gal in my ward has for her baby that is to die for! So I am starting my first quilt! I am so excited. The pictures below are of my friends quilt that I am trying to copy the design of. My colors will be chocolate brown, burnt orange (which by the way is one of my all time most favorite colors...seriously...my kitchen in my last house was this color), pattern, and blue! I plan on having mine machine quilted too! Wish me luck! I will post pictures of my quilt progress! Yea for things that I love !!!

it won't be like this for long...

I just heard this beautiful song and it made me cry. It is called It Won't Be Like This for Long by Darius Rucker. So touching! Take a listen HERE. (just press play when it brings up the player) It is such a sweet reminder that these precious years that Travis and I have with our young children won't last forever. The innocent, tender moments of childhood/mommy hood will change...never to be the same. So today I am going to enjoy the fingerprints, the cuddles, the lights left on, the pencil on the wall, the underwear left in the bathroom, and the Legos all over the floor. I love being a Mom! I love my children. I love being able to raise them with my amazing husband. I love that we have such great extended families that support and love us. Most importantly I love that we are a family FOREVER!

food storage...

One of the blogs that I like to follow did a weekly food storage list a few months ago. The list was full of a lot of staples. She posted a new item each week. Well...I wanted to do it along with her, but buying the amount I needed for my family of each item each week would have been too expensive for our budget. I am planning on using her list only going a little slower. So when I go grocery shopping this Saturday my item to focus on is OATS!

The goal is to buy one big round container (42 oz.) for each person in your family

Now this shouldn't be too hard for me because I have been slowly stocking up on oats for a month or so now. I have been buying one every time I go grocery shopping. So I just need to pick up 3 more to reach my goal. If any of you plan on doing this with me I would love to hear how your doing!

Also...in case anyone is wondering what my food storage plan of attack is...here is what I plan on doing:

  • Complete food staples list (things like oats, oils, spices, baking goods, canned meat and fruits, etc..)
  • Pick 5-7 meals that my family enjoys that is made mostly out of things easy to store and gather 3 months worth of each.
  • Buy 8 more 5 gallon jugs for water storage (I already have 8. You are supposed to store 1.5 gallons for each person in your family per day. That is 9 gallons a day for my family. The goal being 2 weeks worth. I know that 8 more won't fill that goal completely, but eventually I want a 50 gallon drum too! I read that it is easier to haul around and use the 5 gallon jugs when you need to use your water storage then to get it out of the drum. Ex. put a jug in the bathroom, one in the kitchen...)
  • Stock up on flour, sugar, and rice
This is totally a work in progress and will change I'm sure, but I feel good having a plan.

click to give...

My sister-in-law sent me an email with a link to
this breast cancer site. For every 45,000 clicks a free mammogram is given to a
women in need. I also checked it out on snopes.com. 45,000 sounds like a lot for just 1 test, but if all of us did it everyday it adds up. Just click on the site below and then click
the pink box. It is free and it is so easy. I plan on bookmarking this site and doing it
everyday.

when he laughs...

I just love listening to Max laugh. He has quite the belly laugh. Usually when he is tired we can really get him going. His laugh just frosts over the mess of the day and makes me smile!

adorable wedding albums...

Have I ever mentioned how amazingly talented Travis' family is? His mom is a lovely painter, his little sister creates the most adorable Baby and Memory Books, and now his oldest sister is starting a Wedding Album line!! They are custom made, intricately personalized, and so chic I just want to scream! Oh and did I mention that they are reasonable priced! Even more so when you go in on one with a friend!! What a great wedding shower gift. I wish I knew someone getting married so that I could help design one! I am so lucky to be related to such talented women!
