I recently heard about the intent of the producers of the HBO show Big Love to have their characters act out portions of our temple ceremonies on an upcoming episode. I am always disturbed when I hear about things like this. Such things in my life are considered sacred and special. Not something that should be trivialized or made fun of. Reading THIS brought me comfort and perspective. I have never seen the show, but I hope that if you do watch you carefully consider why you are watching and think about reconsidering your choice!

It's hard not to be angry about this, but then I think about how many other religions have had their sacred "rituals" displayed for the world to see this way. As an onlooker not knowing what I'm watching I usually don't pay too much attention or I think they are a little weird and thats that. I hope the same will happen for those who are not of our faith when they watch.
I'm with you Sherrie. It's hard not to be angry. But as long as we keep those things sacred, WE will have nothing to worry about when all is said and done!
Ya I heard that...crazy huh? It's sad because of course they are not going to able to show the truth and importance. Oh well...I guess Hollywood will once again do something just to make money.
I was pretty mad about this too! With so much attention on the church right now in the media, this will just be one more thing for mainstream Americans to scratch their heads about and say, 'wow. those mormons really are wackos!'
I was watching the View the other day and Joy made fun of Mormons special underwear and my first thought was, 'can you imagine the hayday the media would have if she had said something about the jews funny hats? or something as ignorant?' There is no difference between her saying this crazy thing about mormons and Don Imus saying what he said against black people. How is it a "joke" when people are talking about sacred mormon practices and it is "prejudice" when others are talking about other religions or races???
Bottom line... we are a peculiar people and it makes me sick and angry that this is something that Hollywood deems appropriate.
