Travis and I have been married for almost 10 years! 10 YEARS!!! Holy Moly...are we really THAT old? Anyhoo...Date night has totally transformed over the years. At first it was totally HIS thing. Then we got married...and it became something that just happened...no kids...the weekend...we just did whatever we wanted...well our no kid time didn't last long. Date night soon transitioned into "Huh? What is date night!" We carted little Noah around with us and still had a pretty good time. We had periods of times where my parents would babysit so that we could have a date to the temple and a date date each month...but some how the more kids you have the less "free" babysitting happens very often. Flash forward to now...we have a small date night budget and I am usually in charge of finding a suitable YW to watch our crazy clan. Date night now consists of plans forming and me informing Travis where we will be going and when.
So yesterday afternoon as I was frantically trying to find a babysitter...with no luck...I thought "How did I become the only one that plans dates? I KNOW that Travis is a pretty creative guy..." So I quickly called Travis at work and this is what I said as soon as he picked up the phone, "Your mission should you choose to accept it is to plan a stay at home date since there is not a babysitter in the land. It musnt be elaborate or fancy...just a date including food. We can eat after the kids go to bed...but your in charge!" Immediately Travis was like, "Honey...I am still at work...I can't plan a date...I have one planned for next week...I'll do it next week...really...I don't have time..." To which I simply responded, "This is your mission tonight...this message will self destruct in 10 seconds!" and I hung up the phone. I was a little worried, but knew that he would pull SOMETHING together. When he came home he informed me that he would need about an hour to get things ready. I was honestly a little bugged cause this meant putting the kids to bed by myself, but I was the one who gave him the task so I wasn't about to complain...at least the man had a plan.
Step one of his "plan":
He purchased Papa Murphey's Pizza in my favorite topping combo. The thought behind this was so that it would be hot and ready whenever the kids were finally asleep...brilliant!We would be eating out pizza in a TENT!! Yep a tent! He set up our little 4 man tent in our family room complete with sleeping bags, pillows, candles, and fun music.
After eating we played a few rounds of UNO and listened to tunes...for anyone that knows my husband...he is not a huge gamer, but I am...so this was a treat!!
After pizza and games we turned the tent towards the TV and watched the new Star Trek movie and ate yummy ice cream and brownies!!Can I just say how much his thoughtfulness made me feel special! I know I kinda asked for it, but even Travis said that as he started thinking about what to do and the plan started coming together he got super excited. It didn't cost much...probably much less than going out and paying a babysitter! It was the thought that counts. I am not a high maintenance gal...it doesn't take much...
We decided that we need to do this more often. After 10 years he's still got the heat!
